Three stars who need to leave Everton to fulfill their potential

Everton’s season has been a tale of two halves with the principal players producing at crucial moments, but Ronald Koeman has more recently witnessed his stars hit a wall, preventing them from progressing further.

At Football FanCast HQ, this has raised questions over whether some players at Goodison Park need to contemplate their futures on Merseyside should they have plans to reach the top of the beautiful game.

Not many can deny Everton’s prestigious place in Premier League history, but the more honest Toffees fans will admit some players need to move to continue their development.

Summer signings added to an already talented squad has bolstered Everton’s chances of competing for European football once more. But that appears to be the glass ceiling for the Merseysiders, who have reached the Champions League just once in over a decade.

We take a look at three players who should consider a move to a bigger club in the coming transfer windows.

Seamus Coleman

Now at the age of 28, Coleman is reaching that stage of his career where he must look for a move away from Goodison to ensure he challenges for trophies.

Everton signing the Irish international for just £50,000 in 2010 must be considered one of the best pieces of transfer business in Premier League history.

Coleman fits the modern trend of full-backs who can both attack and defend and would be the ideal right-back for Manchester United, who have struggled so desperately to replace Gary Neville.

Idrissa Gueye

When you consider the astronomical fees paid during the summer, supporters should take their hats off in appreciation of Everton’s modest £7.5million swoop for Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye’s ability to impose his physicality on opposition midfielders has proved successful for Koeman thus far, suggesting he’s capable of producing the goods for one of European football’s biggest teams – much like N’Golo Kante.

Romelu Lukaku

The closest player to Didier Drogba the Premier League is ever likely to see. His goal-scoring record is impeccable, yet people are still critical of him, despite being only 23 years old.

Lukaku moved to Everton from Chelsea hoping to progress into a world-class striker and the Belgian is certainly on the right path.

Ronald Koeman recently spoke of the necessity for Lukaku to move on if he wishes to achieve his potential.

“If Romelu was to play at Everton until the end of his career I know he has left something behind,” said the Dutchman.

He’s certainly not wrong.
